Melbourne - The Big City Learn about how Melbourne has developed into the city that it is today. Students will investigate the many different aspects of Melbourne, including significant buildings, the Port of Melbourne, Docklands, the transport system and the importance of the Yarra River. Students will see how these features have developed over time and how they work together to make Melbourne the vibrant city it is today. Students will also look at the city urban sprawl, investigating the human side of Geography in terms of population density and growth.The unit will involve fieldwork (excursion) to a variety of locations examining the land use zones of Melbourne, urban change and renewal (Docklands) and the city’s infrastructure. Geographical mapping and graphing conventions will be further developed in this course.
Australians at War The focus of the unit is to discover Australia’s involvement in warfare over the 20th century. · World War One · World War Two · Cold War conflicts · Peacekeeping Students will investigate the way that Australia’s attitude to war has changed over this time. They will explore our nation’s shifting international alliances and our changing national identity.
Family Snapshots Find out how to trace your family tree and what life was like in the days of old. Adopt an older person by visiting a local retirement village and present them with a “This is your Life.”Learn how to plan your school reunion. This unit is about learning detective skills and applying them to the present in order to trace your past. Where else can you learn about you and your family, using laptops and the internet where you will become an expert and uncover memories of your ancestors and how they lived?
