LOTE - Japanese

Learning the language is the best introduction to another culture. Knowledge of Japanese may lead to greater employment opportunities in the areas of banking, business, education, finance, hospitality, retail and tourism. Students study the topics school life, daily routine, likes and dislikes , school life, and food using the text Hai 3, 4, 5 & 6.
Selection of this workshop will run all year.

LOTE - Indonesian
Indonesian language skills can open the doors to a wide range of employment opportunities in areas of government, education, business, tourism, translating and interpreting, the military, medicine, law, engineering and journalism. There are as many as 400 Australian companies operating in Indonesia.Students in year 9 use the textbook Kenalilah Indonesia 2 and study the topics environment, sport and entertainment, holidays and celebrations.

St. Johns Ambulance
Students work with Mark White, the school first aid officer learning basic first aid skills. They can have an active role in the wider school community, by attending events as first aid students.

Term 1 – Yourself & Others

In this subject we will look at how valuable you are.  You will learn to understand yourself, your feelings, your actions and your choices and be proud of the good decisions you make.  You will learn your love language and how to make and keep friends.  You will learn what a good relationship looks like and how to maintain it. By the end of the course which will involve a number of active workshops you will know how to feel more in control of your life.

Term 2 – Conquering In A Difficult World

-    Public speaking
-    Peer mentoring
The world you are entering has many pitfalls.  Learn how to avoid many of them with the workshops you will work through this term.  Be confident in who you are and how you present yourself.  Understand how others see you and how you can influence them.  Be part of a program of mentoring where you will take grade 5 and 6 students for lunchtime activities and help them enjoy the prospect of coming to high school.

Term 3 - Feeling Comfortable In Different Cultures
-    Understanding different cultures
-    Organizing and running an expo
-    Fund raising for a trip to a developing country
-    Learn what it is like to live in other cultures
We will visit a number of Australians from different countries and different belief systems.  We will contact organisations from around the peninsula and invite them to an expo we will run.  We will fundraise for our 4th term trip to a developing country.

Term 4 - A Whole New Meaning To Life
-    Visit to developing country
-    Raising awareness of others poverty
This term we will learn all we can to prepare to visit a developing country.  We will visit the country and then come home and work on raising our students’ awareness of the poverty in this world. Please note that if we are unable to go overseas next year we may be able to go to an indigenous community in Australia or put together a large number of Christmas boxes and take them to Samaritans purse and see where they are going and why.
