Education in general and the study of mathematics specifically can be viewed as a process of personal progress, growth and development.
The course is based on the VELS and VCE guidelines.
At Dromana Secondary College, numeracy is a high priority for all students and the College focuses on the improvement and enrichment of mathematical skills. A Learning Centre provides additional support for students experiencing difficulty. Students are encouraged to extend their skills at all times.
Students are given the opportunity to participate in mathematics competitions and programs. In semester 2, students compete in the Mathematics Talent Search with prizes given at each year level.
Features of the Maths program

Rich Assessment Tasks: A variety of tasks to enable students to demonstrate their understandng of mathematical concepts.

Problem Solving: This is a feature of our courses where students develop the skills and processes necessary to solve a variety of problems.

Computers: We have a number of Laptop classes at each year level. Our texts include CDs The College network has a variety of Mathematics Programs for students to use

Learning Centre: This is a centre for students who need extra help with their mathematics

Extension Classes: At year 9 level there is an extension mathematics elective that can be chosen in addition to the standard class. At year 10 level, students are offered two levels of mathmatics and they can also choose to advance their studies by doing a VCE mathmatics subject in year 10.

Year 11 and 12 VCE Classes: Foundation Mathematics, Mathematical Methods, Further Mathematics, Specialist Mathematics.
