Laptop Program
Dromana Secondary College has a dynamic and innovative laptop computer program that students elect to be involved at the beginning of year 7.

At Dromana Secondary College there is a strong commitment to the expansion of learning opportunities and horizons through information technology.

The college is constantly expanding its Laptop computer program with the belief that computers on their own do not enhance learning, but the use of computers in the classroom leads to positive changes in teaching practices that can enhance student learning.

Successful learning comes from an environment that is creative, adventurous and cooperative. Our experience has shown this to be evident in our laptop classes. We have observed that self-paced learning is more evident, and students have demonstrated innovative and creative ways of interpreting information, exchanging ideas, solving problems and presenting their work.

MOTIVATION

EMPOWERMENT

The college continues to make a substantial commitment to the use of laptop computers by having an extensive cable network, an expanding wireless network and Intranet facilities. With network cards in the laptop computers students have access to on-line library resources, databases, curriculum and the Internet.

At Dromana Secondary College, each student in the laptop program has a unique log-on that provides access to storage on the school's server.  The log-on procedure also enables every student to have their own email address at the College, which is very useful for teachers who can communicate readily with a student.

The college recently introduced "DayMap" which allows Students and Parents to access their daily program (using their individual logon) from home or at the college. This includes a students individual timetable, any homework, projects and revision tasks set by their teachers in any of the subjects they do. Daily Bulletins, sport team selections, excursion and work requirement grades and due dates are also available for each student.

The majority of teachers at the college now have laptop computers and are involved in ongoing professional development to assist them in providing the students with a collaborative and technology rich learning environment.

The Laptop program at Dromana Secondary College is engaging our students and helping prepare them for lifelong learning with the essential skills required in the rapidly changing technology based work places of the future.

Parents who are interested in their child participating in the Laptop Computer Program should contact Mr Ray Owens (Laptop Program Coordinator) at the College.
