VCE PROGRAM

The VCE is normally a two year program completed across Years 11 and 12, although technically there is no limit as to how many years it takes.

Students who undertake a VCE Program are:

  • Generally enjoy more academic subjects and/or
  • Looking to pursue further academic study in the post-secondary years and/or
  • Wanting to gain an ATAR for the purposes of University entrance

Year 11 students who elect to undertake a VCE program:

  • Will elect 5 VCE full subjects (equal to 10 credits) and one additional study that is either a VCE subject in the Wednesday block or a VET subject.
  • Will elect English as it is a compulsory subject within the VCE.
  • May have completed some VCE units in Year 10, which will also contribute to their VCE.
  • Are encouraged to elect to undertake a Unit 3 / 4 sequence in Year 11 (Year 11 VCE subjects are referred to as Unit 1 / 2 subjects, whilst Year 12 VCE subjects are referred to as Unit 3 /4).
  • There is a distinct advantage gained by completing a Unit 3 /4 sequence in Year 11, in relation to a student’s ATAR.

Year 12 students who elect to undertake a VCE program:

  • Will elect 5 Unit 3/4 subjects.
  • May also combine a VET subject (In this case a student would normally undertake four VCE subjects plus a VET subject).
  • Must have satisfactorily completed at least 8 units in Year 11 and achieved a satisfactory result for English.
  • Must sit all exams and satisfactorily complete Unit 3 / 4 English in order to gain an ATAR.

To satisfactorily complete the VCE students must:

  • Achieve a satisfactory completion for a minimum of 16 units (Including Unit 1 / 2 and 3 / 4 subjects).
  • Achieve a satisfactory result for at least 3 units from the English area of study.
  • Achieve a satisfactory result for at least 3 additional 3 / 4 sequences.
  • Meet school attendance requirements.
  • To receive an ATAR students must complete Units 3 / 4 English in addition to the above requirements.
