The Senior School at Dromana College comprises Years 10, 11 and 12 and students within the senior school are considered role models in terms of their conduct, work ethic and attitude. It is an expectation that our senior students exemplify our College Values of Respect, Responsibility, Integrity and Personal Best.
From Year 10 onwards the senior students have access to a broad and flexible learning program that is based around their interests and future pathways aspirations. Student choice and expert pathways advice are considered in customising each student’s individual program. Year 10 students are encouraged to access the successful VCE Advancement Program, which provides the advantage of completing a VCE study from Units 1 to 4 by the end of Year 11, and facilitating an increment in their ATAR score. Alternatively Year 10 students can select from an extensive range of VET (Vocational Education and Training) programs on offer, which also provide credit towards both VCE and VCAL Certificates. Senior students can also incorporate School Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships from Years 10 through to 12, adding a further dimension to their senior studies.
We are proud of our broad, rigorous and versatile VCE program which caters for the diversity of pathways of our students. Predicated on the widely promoted premise that VCE is a University pathway, Dromana College students can choose VCE studies that provide entry into the full spectrum of University courses. These VCE studies comprise those from the Maths and Sciences, Humanities, Technology, Foreign Languages, the Arts and Performance, Health and PE, Commerce and of course English. Extensive course counselling for all students ensures that interests and aspirations are understood and used to shape individual programs.
VCE students also have access to University Enhancement Studies which provide both VCE and University credits. Dromana College students are in the enviable position of enjoying ongoing support from Monash University through our participation in the Schools Access Monash (SAM) Program, which provides University campus tours from Year 8 onwards, Year 12 tutoring and exam revision classes and scholarships amongst other things.
We believe that our highly successful VCE program and its delivery maximise engagement and student success by offering a wide range of subjects to cater for the needs and interests of all students and ensuring that teachers place their students at the forefront of their practice. Senior students are also encouraged to participate in a range of extra and co-curricular activities to complement and enhance their studies and provide a balanced and rounded educational experience. These include a wide range of sports, camps and excursions, performances and productions and Leadership programs, amongst many others.
Our dedicated team of senior teachers have developed and implemented policies, procedures and structures to support the smooth running of the program and to maximise success for all students. Whilst great strides have been made in recent years and outstanding VCE results have been achieved, we will not be deterred from our unwavering focus of striving for continuously improving outcomes for all senior students.
